AJAX
Introduction
- AJAX: Asynchronous JavaScript And XML.
- AJAX is a web browser technology that uses existing standards
such as JavaScript, XML, HTML, CSS, DOM and the
XMLHttpRequest object.
- Allows better, faster, more interactive
(easier to use) web applications to be developed
- Uses asynchronous data transfer (HTTP requests)
to send and receive small amounts of data between
a web browser and a web server. This occurs
behind the scenes instead of reloading an entire
web page each time a user makes a change.
- XML is commonly used as the format for receiving
server data, although any format including plain
text can be used.

Laboratory
Do something interesting and non-trivial that involves AJAX.
If you are a Montana State student, demonstrate it during
today's lab period. If you are a University of Leipzig student,
either demonstrate it during today's lab period or e-mail it to
Sebastian (loewe AT uni-leipzig.de) no later than the end of the day.
