How do you apply "only a certain number of vertices a black material"?

Well, if you are asking this question I'm assuming you are new to Blender, so I'll go into depth.

1) Go into edit mode and select all Vertices (Key A)

2) Go into the Shading options and Click "Add New"
This will create a Material which we can later assign different objects or faces.

3) Rename the material to "White."

4) Go Back into Editing Options, and Click "Assign."
This will assign the seleted faces the white material we just created.

5) Now Deselect all Vertices (Key A), and go into "Face select mode."

6) Select the faces you want to assign a black color.

7) Now click "new."

This will create a New Material index which we can later assign to different faces. But before we do that, we need to create a black material.

1) Go back into Shading Options. See where it says White, click that little box next to it and select "ADD NEW."

2) Change the name of the material to "black," afterwords click on the area which I'm pointing at.
- Drag your mouse around till you hit black.
- Or you can set all the RGB values to 0.000.

3) We have now officially created another material. Now go back into Editing Options. And click Assign!

Ta-da!
