Out of Lab Web Assignment
Building a Web Page
Due Tuesday September 14th at the start of lab
Assignment
You are to construct your own personal Web page.
Purpose
To continue learning how HTML 4.01 pages for the Web are constructed.
To Do
You are to develop your Web page using a simple text editor, such as Notepad
on Microsoft Windows. In other words, you should be learning the HTML tags
by actually typing them. In the future, you will be able to build a more
elaborate Web page using one of the special Web page development systems.
The best way to develop your Web page is a little at a time by repeating the
following three steps numerous times:
- Write a portion of your page using Notepad (or a similar text editor)
- Save the page to a directory on your local disk, or to a diskette
- View the page using Netscape or Internet Explorer
What to Submit
- Your lab TA will tell you how you will submit your homework. If he doesn't tell ask him in lab on the 7th. He probably forgot.
Grading
Scoring will be done according to the following criteria:
- The page has a current picture of you on it.
- The page contains a link to your Spring semester 2004 schedule
embedded
in a TABLE environment. (so this will be a second page in your account).
- A third page will have links to relevent issues in your life. These will be Web sites outside your account such as espn.com or babycenter.com (I have a 10 month old son). Make it at least four links, and an icon and some text explaining each link.
- For example: Baby Center
(That's supposed to be a diaper, it's hard to see.)
- The main page contains other information that you deem relevant, these can be on
the main page or links to other pages you create.
- The pages look good.
Special Notes
This assignment is to be done individually.
If, for personal reasons, you would like to maintain your privacy, you are
not required to include your phone number, address, or e-mail address on your
Web.
Everyone must turn in this simple Web assignment as it is
stated. If you are already a capable Web developer, you may certainly make
your Web site as elaborate as you want after this assignment is complete.
Especially well-designed Web pages might be shown in class at various
times.
