- The objectives of this course are for the student to:
- Understand the scope and importance of
databases in the computer science field.
- Understand the fundamentals of database techology.
- Become proficient manipulating a relational database management system.
- Do the research necessarey to write a front end of a database project
in which they are interested.
- At the end of the course a student should:
- Be able to design a database using an ER diagram,
which is then mapped to the relational model.
- Recognize an appropriate normal form for a database problem.
- Understand how set theory relates to the relational model.
- Be able to write queries in relational algebra and SQL.
- Gain on their own the knowledge necessary to write a front end to a database.

- Homework 10%
- Project 20%
- Exam1 15%
- Exam2 25%
- Final 30%
- Final: Monday May 3 @ 8:00am
