474 Paper Assignment

Due Date

A hardcopy of the paper (electronic submissions will not be accepted) is due no later than Monday, April 12 at 5:00p.m. The paper can be given to Anne DeFrance in person, pushed under his office door, or placed in her mailbox in the CS office.

Topic

Write a 2-3 page paper that reflects on your experiences as a consultant. In the paper, include the following sections:

• What are you doing effectively as a consultant? Give specific examples to back up your claims.
• What are the biggest challenges that you have experienced as a consultant? Give specific examples.
• How have you tried to overcome the challenges in section II? Be specific.
• How has the consulting experience benefited you as a computer scientist? Be specific.
• What advice would you give to consultants next semester?
• Do you think consulting should be a requried course in the CS curriculum?

Grading Criteria

The paper is worth 100 points.

• Each of the four sections is worth 25 points. You should devote a minimum of one half page to each of the four sections. A section will be graded based on its insightfulness, clarity and organization.
• Grammar and Spelling. For each grammar or spelling mistake that is found, 5 points will be deducted.
• Logistics. You must adhere to the following requirements or you will receive no credit:
  • The paper must be written using a word processor.
  • The paper must not exceed three pages.
  • A 10 point font or larger is used.
  • The paper must be received by Monday April 12 at 5:00p.m.
