KompoZer
Background
- KompoZer is a WYSIWYG editor: What You See Is What You Get
- KompoZer is based on Nvu
- KompoZer runs on Windows, Macintosh, Linux and other platforms
Installation
- Download
version 0.7.10 of KompoZer
for your platform (Windows, Mac, Linux)
and save the downloaded version onto your desktop.
- Right click on the downloaded version and extract
the files. I chose to extract the files to C:\Program Files.
- Delete the original file that you downloaded. It is no longer needed.
- For convenience, navigate to C:\Program Files\KompoZer 0.7.10
and create a shortcut for the KompoZer program. Move this
shortcut to your desktop.
- Run KompoZer by clicking the shortcut on your desktop.
Creating a Web Page
- Create a web page by copying the content of Martin Luther King's
I Have a
Dream Speech into the large pane in KompoZer.
- Notice that there are four mode tabs at the bottom of the page.
The Normal mode is KompoZer's WYSIWYG editor mode.
- To save the page, click on the File menu and then select
the Save item. The first time you save a file, you will
be asked to give the web page a title. You will also need to give
the file a name (it is best to use all lowercase letters and no
spaces for the file name) and choose where to save it.
- When you make future changes to the web page and want to
save these changes, just click the Save icon. The web
page will be saved in the same location.
Changing Text Appearance
- To change the font that is being used, select the Format
menu and then select the Font item. Notice that there
are many fonts. Later in the course, we will
study typography in more detail.
- To change the size of a font, select the Format menu
and then the Size item.
- To create a header, select the Format menu and
then the Paragraph item. There are six choices for
headings that range from Heading 1 (largest) to Heading 6 (smallest).
