Personal Web Page
Purpose
The purpose of this assignment is to learn to build a personal web page.
You may either hand-code the html (this is easy to do and will help you
to better understand html) or use an html editor of choice.
Partners
Each person must do this assignment individually. However, feel
free to assist your classmates.
Requirements and Grading (10 points possible)
- 1 point - The web page is named index.html.
- 1 point - The web page identifies your name, your year in school,
your major and your minor (if you have one).
- 2 points - The web page contains a table with your weekly
schedule on it. The days of the week (Monday - Friday)
should be used to label the columns and the hours of the work
day (8 a.m. - 4 p.m.) should be used to label the rows.
Fill in the table with your weekly classes and activities.
Leave unscheduled times blank. For example, CS 160 should
occur on Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 9 a.m. and the CS 160 lab
should occur for the appropriate two hours on Tuesday.
- 2 points - The web page contains a current picture of you. If you don't
own a digital camera, find someone who does and have them take
a picture of you. The picture will be helpful so that your
lab TA can associate a face with your name.
- 2 points - The web page lists at least three of your interests
in one of html's list environments.
- 1 point - At least one of the items in the interest list above contains
a link to a relevant website.
- 1 point - the overall webpage looks OK and makes sense.
Helpful Hints
- Here is an HTML Tutorial
should you decide to handcode your page. Notice that there are
sections on many of the required elements such as tables, lists,
links and images.
- Another good way to learn to handcode HTML is to find a page
that contains something that you want to imitate. Then, under
the browser's View menu, select the Page Source option. For
example, our lab
page contains a table - view the page source to learn what
html code is necessary to produce it.
Submission
Bring your webpage (and other necessary files such as your picture)
on a memory stick at the beginning of the lab period on Tuesday, September 16th.
During the in-lab, you will be shown how to make this webpage available
on the World Wide Web.
