Chapter 8: The Future of Intelligence
- Can we build intelligent machines? Hawkins: yes, but not
machines that act human or interact with us in human ways.
These machines need appropriate capacity and connectivity.
Ideally, they should be cheap, not use much power and be small.
- Should we build intelligent machines? Some scenarios involve
computers running amok or uploading one's brain into a computer.
- Why should we build intelligent machines?
Short term possibilities: better speech recognition,
better vision recognition, smart cars.
Long term disruptive potential could be based on :
speed, capacity (different inputs, more layers, denser layers, etc.),
replicability and sensory systems.
- What is the timeframe for intelligent machines to become a reality?
