Coffee: Espresso

Espresso is not a type of bean. Espresso is not a specific type of blend though there are specific blends designed for espresso. Espresso is not a roast type. Espresso is simply another method by which coffee is brewed. Most espresso blends result in the melding of beans from multiple coffee growing regions, combining flavor strengths from individual regions' beans.

First, is our favorite espresso blend, Sharp and Sweet, that indeed results in excellent crema production. Crema is the dark golden to reddish-brown foam that develops on a shot of espresso when brewed. Crema is one of the visual indicators of a quality shot of espresso.

Sharp and Sweet

Some sharp sweetness (Central American) hides behind the nutty Brazil flavors and the wonderful Yemeni aromatics. Mandheling adds body and depth. Yemeni coffees are fun for espresso blends, where they can be used like spice to give zest the aromatically or enzymatically flat blends. The good crema production from this blend is due to the many dry-processed coffees.
