Design Process
Yeah, it's that important
- To design anything successfully, a need or desire must be fulfilled. The first step in our design process is to clearly identify this need or desire. A list of all needs must be put in place with clear definitions of all needs that the design should account for. This step is only complete when a functional design can accomplish all of its objectives.
- To ensure a successful design, the the list of goals may require additional research. This research can now be focused towards collecting the necessary tools that will equip the design to meet its goals. This can play out as content used in the design. It could be that the designers' skill set needs to be expanded to ensure a successful design.
- This step should be very simple if step 1 and 2 have been given ample consideration. All required materials and skills should be identified and gathered. This step can be take a considerable amount of time or be relatively quick, depending on the complexity of the design. This step is only complete when the design is fully functional.
- This step is crucial to ensuring the most successful implementation of the design. The original build of the design needs to be carefully examined in relation to the identified goals to be sure that all goals are met and that the design accomplishes these goals in a rational and in the simplest manner possible. A careful examination here will always result in multiple areas that the original build can be improved.
- This is the final step and can be done with confidence when the previous steps have been performed diligently. It is crucial to understand that this is not a linear list. Step 1 leads to step 5, however the first four steps might(and most likely will for any but the most elementary designs) need to be revisited as necessary to ensure a successful presentation of the design.
A clearly defined, well crafted, and tested design process is necessary for consistent, reliable, design. Two design examples are
Web Design and Graphical Design.
