Faculty Involved:   Binhai Zhu

I am currently working on several projects in algorithms and bioinformatics (with one research funding from NSF and another one from NSF of China). One of the problems is to dynamically label a set of sites (to put a label indicating whether it is good for cross-country skiing), this is from GIS applications. For bioinformatics areas, I am currently working on realistic computation of genomic distances (like with gene repetitions), ancestral genome analysis based on PQ-trees, and protein structure alignment using the discrete Frechet distance.

Support:

The research on protein structure alignment (using discrete Frechet distance) is currently supported by National Science Foundation.

Opportunities:

If you are a student (at any level) who likes challenge, there is always a chance to participate in these projects (possibly with some financial support).
