Brittany Fasy

Brittany Dr. Fasy is an assistant professor in the Gianforte School of Computing. She joined MSU in 2015, after postdocs at Tulane University (working with Carola Wenk) and Carnegie Mellon University (where she was a founding member of TopStat). She recieved her PhD in Computer Science from Duke Universtiy in 2012. Her PhD adviser was Herbert Edelsbrunner. Dr. Fasy's research is in Applied Algebraic Topologly, working both on the theoretical foundations as well as on applying the techniques of TDA to various fields. She is on the steering committee for Women in Computational Topology (WinCompTop).

Tomas Gedeon

Brittany Tomas Gedeon is a professor of mathematics in the Department of Mathematical Sciences. He joined MSU in 1995 after a postdoc at Northwestern University. He received his PhD in 1994 under the direction of Konstantin Mischaikow. His research interests are in Mathematical Biology and Applied Algebraic Topology. He is particularly interested in dynamics of large gene networks and applications of TDA and other data analysis techniques to biological data.

Ryan Grady

Grady Ryan Grady is an assistant professor in the Department of Mathematical Sciences. He obtained his PhD from the University of Notre Dame under Stephan Stolz, before being a postdoctoral researcher at Boston University and the Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics. His research interests include algebraic topology and mathematical aspects of quantum field theory.


David Millman

Dave Dr. Millman is an assistant professor in the Gianforte School of Computing. He joined MSU in 2017 after helping to build the initial versions of ProductionPro and Nowsta. He received his Ph.D. in Computer Science from UNC Chapel Hill in 2012 under the guidance of Jack Snoeyink. Dr. Millman's research is in Computational Geometry and Scientific Computing and some of their unusual applications.


Binhai Zhu

Binhai Binhai Zhu is a professor in the Gianforte School of Computing. He joined MSU in 2000, prior to that he taught at City University of Hong Kong from 1996 to 2000 and did a post-doc at Los Alamos National Laboratory from 1994 to 1996. He obtained his PhD at McGill University in 1994 under the supervision of Godfried Toussaint. His current research interests are algorithms and their applications (especially problems in computational biology, with algorithms, geometry and topology as tools).


PhD Students

Robin Belton

Robin Robin Belton is a graduate student in the Department of Mathematical Sciences at MSU. She grew up in Annapolis, Maryland and received her B.A. in Mathematics from Kenyon College in 2016. Outside of doing math, Robin enjoys playing the pipe-organ, teaching piano, drawing, and making various crafts such as origami earrings.


Anna Schenfisch

Anna

Anna Schenfisch was born and raised in Casper, Wyoming. She earned undergraduate degrees from the University of Wyoming in music performance (violin) and mathematics. During her time as an undergraduate, she spent a summer in Pittsburgh doing research in extremal graph theory as part of Carnegie Mellon's REU for applied mathematics. Currently, Anna is a graduate student at Montana State University in the department of mathematical sciences. Her interests outside of math include running, cooking, and reading.

Jordan Schupbach

Jordan

Jordan Schupbach is a PhD student in statistics at MSU. His current research interests include topological data analysis (TDA), functional data analysis, machine learning, and optimal design. He is currently involved in research with Dr. Brittany Fasy and Dr. John Sheppard using tools from TDA to predict prostate cancer progression and recurrence. Outside of math, statistics and computer science, some of his interests include skiing, swimming, hiking and cooking.

Lucia (Lucy) Williams

Lucy

Lucia (Lucy) Williams is a computer science PhD at MSU from Seattle, Washington. She is interested in the design and analysis of algorithms, particularly graph algorithms. In addition to research, Lucy enjoys playing, coaching, and training for ultimate frisbee, and outdoor adventures of all kinds, especially bicycle-powered ones.


Brad McCoy

Brad McCoy is a graduate student in the department of computer science as MSU. His research interests are TDA, algorithms and education. Outside of research Brad enjoys painting mountain landscapes while in the mountains.




Undergraduate Students

Nathan Stouffer

Nathan

Nathan Stouffer is an Undergraduate student studying Computer Science and Mathematics at MSU. He is excited to be working with Dr. Brittany Fasy and the TDA team at MSU. Nathan is from Sun Valley, ID and loves to mountain bike, climb, alpine ski, and play ultimate frisbee in his spare time.



Eli Quist

Eli Quist Eli Quist is an Undergraduate student studying Applied Mathematics and CS at MSU. His research is on algorithms for matching polygonal curves to graphs, through the lens of street network analysis. Eli is from Excelsior, Minnesota, and outside of research enjoys alpine skiing, fly fishing, and playing music.

Rostik Mertz

Rostik Mertz Rostik Mertz is an Undergraduate student studying Computer Science at Montana State University. His research on Bike Networks in New York City is advised by Dr. Brittany Fasy. Rostik enjoys snowboarding, reading, running, and all things soccer. His favorite book is Dune.



Sam Micka

Sam Micka Samuel Micka grew up in Belleville Wisconsin and received his undergraduate degree in Computer Science from University of Wisconsin - Oshkosh. He had spent time in Bozeman during the Summer of 2014 as an REU student at Montana State University and came back as a PhD student in the Spring of 2015. Samuel is advised by Dr. Brittany Fasy with research interests in algorithms and TDA. Outside of research, Samuel enjoys running, skiing of all forms, climbing, and backpacking.

Daniel Salinas

Dani Salinas Daniel recieved his Ph.D. in Computer Science at Montana State University in Spring 2018. His current research includes metabolic flux analysis and flux balance analysis as applied to osteoarthritis. He graduated from the University of New Orleans in 2011 with a BS in Computer Science. His interests include climbing, literature(English and Spanish), origami, and the piano.
