System Requirements

Theory of Computing: The Hypertextbook makes liberal use of three technical features:

• Java applets for active-learning experiences
• Javascript for Web page layout and design
• Mathematical notation expressed as MathML

In order to use the hypertextbook your system must therefore meet the following minimal requirements:

• You must have a recent version of a Mozilla browser installed; we recommend Firefox.  The reason for this requirement is that Mozilla browsers can render mathematical notation expressed in MathML natively.  Other browsers cannot.
• Your browser must have javascript enabled
• Your browser must have a recent version of the Java Virtual Machine plugin

Finally, this version of the hypertextbook has been optimized for a screen resolution of 1280 by 1024. For the best viewing experience you should adjust your screen settings to this resolution or higher. We are working on detecting the screen resolution and adapting the hypertextbook page size accordingly, but this modification will take a while to incorporate.
