Why the Web is Unique ///
The web presents many unique characteristics in comparison to something like print advertising.
One unique characteristic of the web involves interactive
advertising. Instead of static ads that may be found on
buses, billboards, posters, etc., many of the ads that are on the web
are much more flashy, “in your face,” and loud. This more outgoing
approach can either scare away or entice the reader to investigate
further, depending on how effective and professional the ad appears
on-screen.
For example, some ads may have a message saying something to the effect
of, “You have just won an iPod Touch! Click here to claim your prize!”
Another may require an individual to play a small game to
acquire their prize (make three baskets with a basketball and a free
movie will be given away). There may also be nothing other than simple
movement to attempt to catch the reader's eye.

Why the web is different
The above example is only one of many that illustrates why web design
is different than other types of design. A web designer must recognize
that the web can be updated instantly and therefore must be looked at
differently. People can also interact with the web unlike other types
of design so different aspects must be considered. Also, seeing as the
web can be updated, potential mistakes can be corrected and fixed at a
much faster pace than something like a print ad. Overall, the web is
“right now,” and the designer must respect this fact.
