Where have all the women gone?

Most of the faculty who have been around for a while remember when years ago the ratio of women to men in computer science courses was very nearly 1 to 1.

Today, there are relatively few women graduating from computer science curricula, a phenomenon receiving national attention.

Our view (shared by many others) is that the problem is in the pipeline.  We need to reach out to girls long before they reach the university if we hope to encourage them to consider exciting careers in computing.

A minigrant from the Science and Engineering for All (SEA) project at Montana State University (funded by NSF) has allowed the Webworks team, primarily Frances Goosey, to develop a web for this purpose, called cs4women.
