The flora of the major body systems

The male reproductive tract

Many of the organisms inhabiting the male urogenital tract are not too dissimilar from those found in the female reproductive sustem.  Coagulasenegtive staphylococci, viridans group streptococci, coryneform bacteria, and species of the mollicutes are among those frequently isolated.  Although not unheard of in noncatheterized males, urinary tract infections do occur but due to the length of the urethra (about 20 cm as compared to less than 4 cm in females) these are rare.
