Windows Tutorial for
Computer Literacy Classes
offered at
Montana State University
Introduction
Windows98/2000/XP is the most popular operating system used on
personal computers. This Tutorial Web site has information for everyone from the
newest beginner to those with more advanced skills. No matter how long you've been
using personal computers, we almost guarantee you'll learn something new from this
information. Or at least it'll refresh your memory about something you may have forgotten.
If you are one of the few that still has
Windows 95 or if you happen to have the newest version called
Windows XP, you can still gain useful knowledge from this tutorial since many of the
principles are the same among all of the versions. Most the
pictures in this tutorial were taken from a Windows 98 computer. They should be
used as a guide, and you should realize that your experience might look a little
different according to which version of Windows you are using.
It should also be
noted that some of the features in this tutorial are shut down on some of the
computers in the campus labs. They don't let you configure shortcuts and the
start menu in the labs. You can always pretend.
We suggest that you start at the top of the
list of topics shown on the left side of this page. You don't have to keep coming
back to this page to get to the next topic. Subsequent topics will be listed on each
page so you can click to the next one from the page you're on. If you don't want to
start at the top, but simply want to review a couple of the pages, click on the individual
listings on the left. You'll see what we mean as you go through the tutorial.
